I installed The Easter Package yesterday, configured my printer but hadn't had any occasion to use it yet.
I prefer Kpackage to other front ends so I installed it. One of the dependencies was libcupsys2 which seems to be a 3.5.4 version. Now I can't use the printer, the following error message when trying any access to printer or CUPS -
unable to retrieve printer list
Connection to CUPS server failed.
Kano's printer config utility doesn't start and Konq can't get to the localhost:631 url.
I tried
/usr/sbin/cupsd which came back with
cupsd: Child exited with status 127!
Whatever that means
Is this a matter of doing much more of the upgrade to 3.5.4 or might there be something else? Guesses?

I would maybe use apt instead of kpackage

Thanks Piper for the help, somehow I missed that very long thread of like problems. I've reinstalled all and now cups administration is available again but I have a printer driver problem. I'll see if I can puzzle that out.

you should do a dist-upgrade for that since you have stuff from 3.5.4 already (libcupsys2).
the dist-upgrade is easy, no showstoppers, and printing will work afterwards. if you have any hangers,
come to irc #kanotix for a quick fix. afterwards you only have to fix gtk-fonts, solution is here:

Thanks Mr Devil, sir. Will upgrade today, was going to when I was sure I had this version in the same state as 2005-4 but now that it is loused up, better go ahead.
