Titel: How to send Fax thru adsl on KDE
is there an application that sends Fax through adsl connection?
My internet connection is through my adsl modem and I don't have the 56K ones anymore. KDE has Kfax and Kfax print but I don't think either of these are capable of sending fax through such network connection either!!

cheers

The short answer is no you need a standard dial-up modem to directly call a fax number over a land line using your landline

The long answer is yes

Bluewater not correkt, using VoIP there is an option to send faxes over ADSL. The only need is a VoIP provider and of course a VoIP- Modem/Router and just installed Skype to handle the comminication.

Other Option, depends on the Faxreceiver- EFAX on both side on the line. Pehaps its's nearly the same transferingprotocoll.

All what the sending-user has to know with EFAX is the Static-IP of the receiver Courier4 .cann be used as a Frontend for efax.

I meant to say using your PC to call a fax number you need a dial-up modem which has a landline connected to it ... ( opps sorry Verlegen )

and yes if you have VOIP of course

VoIP is widely used in USA and Asia, The standarts for VoIP and IP-Fax are pretty old, 1984 or so.
But nowadays the HW is Cheap enough for the End-user.

I've got Voip (and voip number too), so how do I use that to send a fax?

...mind you though, I don't have a fax machine, so I was hoping to just use a software to fax documents from my desktop.

Just for some info, I've got Belkin 4-port adsl wireless modem/router which also has 2 port voip phone input. I use one of them to attach me voip phone and my isp provides all their customers wtih a free voip number too. I suppose I could attach a fax machine to one of these ports, if I had one -is this what was suggested?

I am NOT INCORRECT with not able to send fax over adsl..
You cannot send a fax over adsl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You cannot use adsl.. like one could when one used a dial-up modem

You can HOWEVER use ADSL to facilitate other software to send a fax

For me i have a fax line (bundled with my landline and pay $6pm for it) hooked to a choice , atm a separate stand alone fax machine,, If i wish to send a fax from the PC, i unship the landline connection from the fax machine and plug it into the PC.sending by stand alone fax software, I still need to print it out, and put the fax in my clients "paper" folder and save it for 10 years (in physical storoge) i dont want 10 years of faxes on my PC,, one year is enough

@Bluewater, I'm not supposed to diskus the diffrences between several technologies how they act together sending voice fax or any other data over a line, or how this services work in detail.

apt-cache search efax

efax - programs to send and receive fax messages
efax-gtk - front end in GTK+ for the efax program
iaxmodem - software modem with IAX2 connectivity

apt-cache search Hylafax will give you another list

just apt-get install packagenamegoeshere

i havent looked at iaxmodem, the site has some info, and its in apt
https://sourceforge.net/projects/iaxmodem
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php ... k+IAXmodem

reason for edit- forgot to add the other link and other fax options
