The grub root line in my menu.lst has changed to (hd2,6) when it should be (hd0,6)
I only noticed it when I rebooted and was told the selected disk didn't exist.
I only have one drive currently installed. When I installed kanotix I did have 2 drives installed so I could copy over some stuff from my old comp to the new one but the current drive has always been set as the first drive and I removed the old one a couple of days ago and kanotix has been booting fine til now. I've re-installed grub to /dev/sda7 (chainloaded from suse's grub) and changed the line in menu.lst to(hd0,6) but if update grub then it changes to (hd2,6) again.

i think in the first lines of the menu.lst you define the standard values for new entries or when running update-grub, so look there if something has changed
