Gave up on update/dist-upgrade of existing installation.
Booted 2006-Easter Livecd and ran "update" existing HD installation.
2 problems:-
1) Grub fails to incude other linux installation (Videolinux) - this I can fix.
2) boot hangs at running cupsd.
Suggestions please.

OK - got the Easter LiveCD hd install working - just edited /etc/rc0.d to rc6.d files and removed references to cupsys - as I don't have a printer attached it doesn't matter - at least the install now runs.

Have a similar problem with an IBM ThinkCentre.
Kanotix LiveCD starts and runs OK with bootusb2 to get the mouse to work.
Installed it and then it hangs up at boot time while loading cupsd.
I got an older Mepis to run last year on it but it was always quirky.
Slackware installed but I'm still learning how to make it work.
Have tried 2005.04 up to 2006rc4 but they all hang at cupsd.
Maybe it needs and older kernel?
Going to try editing /etc/rc0-6.d files and remove cupsd.
Like Bill, I don't have a printer attached to this directly to this box. |
