          last-nights dist-upgrade , to xorg-7.0.19:

if dist-upgrade was halted by a 'X11-common' error

running 'fix-xorg7.sh' installs the new 'xserver-xorg'

 which means X will re-start

 so /usr/X11R6/include/X11/bitmaps/opera.xpm

 is the offender

 i did dpkg --purge opera

 which lets d-u complete

 re-installing opera:

 if opera-install is interrupted by

[Invalid UTF-8] Could not parse file '/usr/share/applications/kde/knxcc_info.desktop' error, edit '/usr/share/applications/kde/knxcc_info.desktop''

change uber to von in the line

if re-installing opera leaves it nowhere to be found

do 'add application to panel' [to kicker]

opera is now at /usr/lib/opera/8.54-20060330.1/opera [in my case]

 the opera icon is at

 /usr/share/opera/images/opera.xpm |

you actually don't need to purge opera, all you need to do is remove a small opera file in /usr/X11R6/bin if you haven't upgraded to x11 7.0 yet. That file kept apt from deleting /bin and replacing it with a symbolic link, as far as I could tell anyway. Deleting the small opera file does nothing to opera, I'm not sure why it's even there, it would have been nice for opera's deb maintainer to have kept up a little better with this so the issue wouldn't have happened in the first place.

That's the only opera glitch I had, it happened once or twice, I think opera deb install adds that each time, hopefully they've fixed it by now. That's the only opera issue I've had, though I haven't reinstalled it, so a fresh install might give other issues as well. No issues with icons.

Not that I really use opera for much, but it's nice to have it there just in case. |
