I need to change my resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 on my laptop IF it will do it. I tried the fix-res script and kncxx and it looked like everything went thru OK till I restarted X and it was not any different.
What is the file to change MODLINES? I remember I had to substitute the resolution I want in certain places in that file and it worked.
Or maybe my laptop will only do 1024x768.......thanks...

You're probably looking for
Code:
sux
mcedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Edit section "monitor" and/or "screen", then restart X server. But be careful, make a backup of xorg.conf first. You can also try fix-res script from the Kanotix/Utilities menu (delete modelines).
However, if your laptop screen only supports 1024x768, you shouldn't try to switch to a higher resolution.
