          | 2.6.17.8-slh-up-1 doesn't seem to support RAID anymore.
Is this true or did I miss something? (I've been running 2.6.11 since all the inbetween kernels refuse to boot scsi off a mixed drive system, now 2.6.17.8-slh-up-1 does, but it ignores my IDE RAID array...).

          | I will install that kernel then, thanks for the info!
(hopefully my other problem with the newer kernels doesn't happen!)

          | There is not the slightest difference between -up and -smp or 2.6.16 in this specific regard. |

          | slh!
Your right, I installed smp and it made no difference. So now I'm stumped. These new version boots, which is great, but now I can't get the RAID array to appear when it works fine with 2.6.11-kanotix-11!

edit I just noticed the following in my dmesg output...

 Zitat:
parport0: FIFO is stuck
parport0: BUSY timeout (1) in compat_write_block_pio
 DMA write timed out
 md: md0 stopped.

 anyone have any clues/ideas?

 thanks!

          | hmm, comparing 2.6.11 and 2.6.17 is a bit hard...
What kind of RAID do you use, one of the few (partly) h/w RAID drivers, pure software RAID using md* devices etc.?

Disclaimer: It's been a long time since I last used (software) RAID (kernel 2.4.10), so I'm definately not informed about recent changes.

          | pure software using mdadm. its a RAID5 array with 3x PATA drives. I did a quick google search for "kernel upgrade mdadm" and couldn't find anything. I am noticing those syslog errors in 2.6.11 as well, so i think that just may be a hardware issue i may need to address later....
whats weird is that 2.6.17 doesn't even see the superblocks or anything, its like it can't read the RAID info on the drive.

          | It's probably in the section checks your disk read/write speeds for the various RAID modes. I'm using software mdraid as well, but w/ 2 SATA Western Digital drives.
I suspect a bad IDE controller or your drives are starting to go...

          | kenyee, yea, their old drives but they come up fine with SMART, could be the controller, though its an onboard... either way, doesn't explain why it works in 2.6.11... |

          | I can see someone "fixing" a "buffer overflow error" bug while testing RAID speeds by disabling the driver if that happens... |
