I found this little pearler while playing around with Freespire. It is odd that I found it there seeing as how they run as root by default but there ya go.
Just download this, open it and copy the three files into /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/
What you get is this:
While I'm at it; i have realised that if you use a totally different colour scheme for your root user than your normal users then it is obvious when you have a root filemanager open and not a user one. It can save a lot of headaches.
**Edit** I just had to change the picture from that cheesy Freespire one to this one of Kanotix with XGL. Much better |

I'm sorry, i'm kind of new at all this and very little experience with Linux in whole. Seems anytime i start to make any progress i get stopped by "permission denied" I can't seem to log in as root, so i really am having a hard time learning how to use this OS.
You mentioned to just drop the files in to a folder that is owned by the root. How do I get around this? |

@cathbard: I loaded the file you suggested, unpacked it and put the contents into /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus -
and what to do now - presently nothing has changed on my PC-
is there an additional step or command necessary to effect the expected changes of the desktop?
thanks |

great idea Cathbard hope we can find that in the next Kanotix release!
i copied the three files only for my user, so i will still have that service menu when i copy my home to another machine or a new installation. the folder for only one user is:
Code:
/home/user/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus
it worked immediately, no logout was needed. |

I have added an option to the root's actions servicemenu to create a directory as root, maybe someone finds it useful too:
[Desktop Entry]
ServiceTypes=inode/directory
Actions=MkdirAsRoot
[Desktop Action MkdirAsRoot]
Name=create directory as root
Name[de]=Verzeichnis als root erstellen
Icon=folder_red
Exec= sudo mkdir `kdialog --inputbox "Please enter name of new directory:" "%U/"`
And regarding different colors for root - why not additionally use a special root icon theme with red folders?

Once you copy the files into the directory it adds a service menu item when you right click on some blank area inside konqueror like the picture shows.
I do use different icons for root user but those look very appropriate. DL'ing them now |
