          | Hello
Can you help me with this?

 Computer : notebook Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Li 1705 (year 2006)
Graphics : VIA Chrome9 HC IGP
 System : Excalibur 32-bit English (KDE 3)

I have downloaded the "4in1" .iso file (md5 sum checked-up)
Burned on DVD (and verified for errors)
"Clean" installation on hard-disk from live mode (Acritox installer ... finished)
Restarted ... can't enter the system either as root or normal user ... here is what I see (text mode, no GUI):

 *Starting NFS common utilities [OK]
 *Setting up ALSA ... [OK]

 Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 KanotixBox tty1

 KanotixBox login: root or user
 Password: the password

 Login incorrect

NOTE: I had installed the previous version Kanotix RC7 without this problem (and with GUI at login)

          | Login incorrect: Maybe capslock was on when you entered the password/s during installation? Or did you use non-common characters in your passwords? Or numbers and numlock isn't on?
no GUI: Did you try to use cheatcodes for booting? Like noapic and vga=vesa?

          | Did you boot with german or us settings? via is always problematic, maybe even more problematic with squeeze later. Best would be access to your system via ssh. |

Thank you ... indeed, at startup menu I tried the boot option vga=vesa, but got the message that it's obsolete and instead should try set gfxpayload=text before linux command ...
I removed vga=791, inserted the line set gfxpayload=vesa and ... IT WORKED, KDE desktop loaded ... now I don't know how to make this setting permanent (it's lost after reboot)

I think it was "us", but I am not sure, I am not very familiar with linux ... I don't know what "acces via ssh" means ... I installed again, this time using only numpad digits in password ... logged in root account ... then I tried "startx" but get error ... I managed to get /var/log/Xorg.0.log, which is attached to this post ... thank you

          | Funny that it works. Cause I wanted to write xmodule=vesa, but it seems that removing the vga= line completely did the trick?
You can take a look at /etc/default/grub and its entry GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT.

But I guess it's better to let Kano do the job.
