          | I am not new to Linux, but am brand new to Kanotix. My wife and I are currently in Santa Fe, NM - each with a Dell laptop using the Broadcom 4318 wireless chipset. The chip works fine under Windows XP, but I can't get it to work with BLAG 50002, which I currently have installed on my laptop. Fortunately I also have a Kanotix live CD, and seem to be making some progress but am not there yet.
This morning I tried to get my wireless connection to work using ndiswrapper but noticed that the bcm43xx driver was already loaded by the kernel. I tried blacklisting the driver, but my edit disappeared every time I rebooted. Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and install to my HD?

I guess another alternative would be to try the native bcm43xx driver. It seems like some people on this forum have had some success. Is the bcm43xx-fwcutter on the live CD? That should make it a snap as I have the bcm43xx firmware stashed away somewhere.

Thanks in advance for the help...

          | I am using the native bcm4318 driver, which is working quite ok, but I ndiswrapper should be currently the better solution as the native driver only works with 11Mb ( there is also another problem, but I forgot about it.. ). If you want to try the native driver with the LiveCD, use unionfs and then download the fwcutter-tool ( apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter ), then download the firmware with usr/share/bcm43xx-fwcutter/install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh . If everything worked fine, you should now be able to configure the network with netcardconfig.
 Greetings, EvNu

P.s.: We also have an english speaking forum, if you scroll down a bit.

          | I think bcm43xx-fwcutter is already on the LiveCD (2006-01-RC3), just give it a try. As far as I know, kernel 2.6.18 will have better native Linux support for the Broadcom chip.
You can also customize the LiveCD using persistent home and unionfs: http://kanotix.com/FAQ-id_cat-62.html#q333
This should allow you to blacklist modules.
